Described as one of the most sought after choreographers in the United States and Canada, Shannon has taken dance and choreography to the incomparable heights. Her creative vision and excellence to the dance arts have been described as “moving, brilliant and inspiring.” Her strive for excellence and ability to bring out the passion of dancers nationwide has created high demand for her gift of teaching and awarded her widespread critical acclaim.
Shannon Mather grew up in the competition and convention world. She and her brother, Blake McGrath, dreamed of the day when a convention would dance its way through their hometown of Toronto, Canada. When that never happened, they decided to get involved. So in 2007, Coastal Dance Rage was born. Boasting a faculty that includes power players Mary Murphy, Tabitha and Napoleon D’umo, Benji Schwimmer, Sonya Tayeh and Stephen “Twitch” Boss, Coastal Dance Rage now tours eight cities. Despite the impressive roster of teachers, Mather advocates for making students the stars at each event, rather than the familiar faces from TV.
As a distinguished educator, Shannon is the owner/director of the Mather Dance Company. Her company offers the most professional dance instruction in the country and focuses on preparing dancers to work professionally. Shannon has trained superstars in dance industry such as Scott Myrick (Katy Perry); Kherington Payne (Fame, SYTYCD season 4); Paula Van Oppen (Burlesque, Usher, Rihanna); Nathan Trasoris (SYTYCD season 6); Jordan Casanova (SYTYCD season 8) and many others.
Shannon has choreographed for artists such as Alanis Morissette, Jason Derulo, Christina Perri, Patricia Ahn, Casey Stratton and Blake McGrath. Her work can also be seen on ABC’s, Dancing With The Stars the past four seasons; Fox hit shows Mobbed, So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Canadian talent search Next Star and Disney movie Harriet the Spy.
Shannon has had a wide range of success in both the choreography and mentorship. She continues to unite her creative passion with both her students and professional clients.
